GGWC: Boxing day walk

Many thanks to Avril for contributing this lovely walk, which completes our Winter programme. The website has been updated.

Inverarnie Esker Trail (circular), Littlemill, Daviot
Grade C; Time 10.30; Grid ref NH700365; OS sheet 27
Rendezvous point RNI community hospital car park, off Ness Walk, at 10am
Proceed along the A9 South, then take the B851 right hand turn off to Fort Augustus, continue for ½ mile, parking on the left at the well signed Little Mill forestry car park. There is parking for around 10 cars in the car park, but it is a popular walk for locals so car sharing where possible.
Join me on Boxing day for a tranquil walk taking us back 10,000 years in time along a clearly defined esker ridge, skirted by two magnificent kettle holes and the Alt na Fuar-ghlaic river The trail is on a narrow track with some undulations, and is characterized by muddy patches, exposed and slippery tree roots and the occasional fallen tree. These eskers have been used for thousands of years as a means of getting around for both wildlife and our Mesolithic ancestors. A slow paced walk to recover from the Christmas mayhem.
Distance – 3 miles/4.75 km; Ascent – minimal
